Yoga Sutra 24:
Klesha karma vipaka ashayaih aparamristah
Purushavishesha Ishwarah
English translation:
God is a special consciousness
untouched by
afflictions, acts, their traces and their fruits.
God is the reflection of Brahman, the consciousness, on the Satwa
quality. Satwa qualities are clarity, luminosity and knowledge.
So God is the reflection of consciousness on clarity, luminosity
and knowledge. As God is the reflection of consciousness on clarity,
that state of consciousness is clear about everything. As God is
the reflection of consciousness on luminosity God is considered
as self luminous. Since God is the reflection of consciousness
on knowledge God is all knowing. These are the attributes of God.
God is not beyond attributes.
When Patanjali was
talking about God he was not talking about an
impersonal God. He was talking about a state of consciousness.
He considers God as a special consciousness which is absolutely
pure and clear. Clarity comes from a state of no conflict. For
no conflict there need a state of non duality. In that state of
non duality there is no Karma nor its results and its consequential
afflictions
According to Maharishi
Patanjali God is a special consciousness
unaffected by afflictions, acts, their traces and fruits. This
special consciousness is eternally free from pain and distress.
Pain and pleasure come out of actions. Actions are bursting out
of thoughts. Thoughts are considered as subtle action. Thoughts
are coming from Memories. Memories are the retentions of past experience.
So thought is the progeny of past. It extends to the future as
its result when one conceives time as linear in nature. When an
action happens, the result of the action is also there in the action
though it is seen only later as the mind can only conceive in a
linear way.
In God consciousness
time is not linear that everything happens
at the same time. That is the concept of Viswaroopam. God is that
special conscious that sees time as it is. That means it witnesses
everything at the same time, the past present and future, that
is hidden in everything. Profound meditation on that state is a
way to self realization.
God, as I said, is
the reflection of consciousness on Satwa quality.
When the Sadhaka witnesses his own Satwa which is the quality of
clarity, luminosity and knowledge he enters into the State of God
consciousness. That means, he enters into the sate of absolute
clarity. In that state of clarity both pain and pleasure embedded
in an action is witnessed by the Sadhaka at the same time. That
is the moment he starts to live the present. God is an existence
in present unaffected by future and its afflictions. He is beyond
the state of pain and pleasure as he could see pain and pleasure
are the extension of the same point. He is not the one affected
by pain and pleasure, instead he is the witness of pain and pleasure.
Ishwara is the supreme
Purusha the supreme consciousness, and
the supreme intelligence that is the cause of everything that we
see in the material manifestation. That state is eternally free
from all actions and afflictions. In him there is no subject and
object. That special consciousness sees everything in him and he
in everything. One who could see himself in every being and every
being in himself is staying in a state of God hood. This is the
state of highest wisdom.
