Yoga Tradition School of Santhi Yoga School in India and Europe
Swami Santhiprasad has formulated his own system of spiritual practice in Siva
Raja Yoga based on the essence of:
• Samkhya philosophy • Kundalini
Yoga • Swara Yoga • Raja Yoga • Jnana Yoga • and his own experience. He
has delineated his own system of Yoga Counseling and Yoga Therapy.
Yoga is not a
practise - it is the life itself. Masters have lived
it. Their teaching was part of their living. Of course all
beings are born with it but loose contact with it in the
course of living as life and living have become different
especially to the modern man.
Those who have
lived their life fully moment by moment to the fullest
possible extent were the known Masters of the east. There
lived many and are still living many unnoticed.
The most spectacular thing
with such great souls is that they do not feel anything special
in them. They remain in their ordinariness. Whatever they handle
will have that natural spontaneity whether it is hard labour,
music, art, dance or meditation.
They lived fully by
becoming one with life and its base silence and hence they
were full and complete beings. That state of completeness,
complete ordinariness, and seeing perfection in all seemingly
imperfect units of creation are
the basis
of beauty in them. Life for them is beautiful. That
beauty they radiated in their vicinity. They lived it. They
left their mortal abode with the same beauty. That beauty is
still continuing in the minds of those who moved with them
while they lived, and still live with those pure beings who
are inherited from them.
Siva Raja Yoga is such an inherited tradition from rare beings like
Thiru Moolar. The Basic text of Siva Raja Yogam is Thiru
Mandiram written by Thiru Moolar who was a contemporary
of Maharshi Patanjali who lived 2600 years ago.
In the South of
Kerala there lived a great saint named Thycaud Ayya Swamikal.
Thycaud Ayya Swamikal was born in 1814
and merged with the ultimate in 1909 who was an exponent
of Siva Raja Yoga. He had many great disciples such as Chattambi
Swamikal, Shri. Narayana Guru Dev, Yogi Padmanabha Bhagavatha
etc.
Ayya
Swamikal, was considered as
a
great Saint after the
time of Adi Sankara, the originator of Adwaita Philosophy.
He never
kept any records or left any marks after him except mending
few pure beings. Their valuable teachings are in the sacred
memories of those disciples. They neither claimed mastery
nor discipleship but they preserved this secret art of consiousness.
Always the essence
of yoga remains hidden beyond the realm of mind! It
may continue to remain hidden so far we human beings are
looking towards Yoga as a means to fulfill our needs. Here
comes the relevance of Siva Raja Yoga. Yoga means Freedom.
Freedom means peace. Siva Raja Yoga is:
The dynamic Union
with
conciousness. It is Yoga of Silence!
The Yoga of
Peace!
Maharshi
Patanjali says - "Yogascitta vrutti nirodha",
which means Yoga is the ceasing of fluctuations of consciousness.
Ceasing of activities of the consciousness is consciousness beyond conscious activities of
the mind. Mind has different layers of existence. The peripheral
surface layer is called the Conscious level by spiritualists
and psychologists. Subtler and deeper than that is the
Subconscious layer and deeper than that is the Super Conscious
layer.
When the so-called conscious
level operates, the mind operates with the senses to the
sensory world. It undergoes experiences, generates knowledge
and converts knowledge to concepts, believes, ideals etc.
It generates thoughts from the memories. The stimulus presented
before the senses is analyzed with the support of the backlogs
in the memories.
If the intellect could discriminate appropriately,
it synthesizes knowledge.
This knowledge further transforms into concepts. These
concepts are held tightly by the individual and generate
the personality as a superimposition to the self. These
superimposed personality
is falsely identified as the real self and the individual
tries to live that personality and seek acceptance and
recognition from the society to derive pleasure by boosting
up of image that is a corollary to the personality.
All these processes are
enabled by subtle changes in the cellular chemistry. The
chemistry of the body changes according to this process.
But the chemistry of the body is not known to the conscious
mind. It is under the control of the intelligence which
operates even when the conscious mind is puts off.
It is understood that the pure intelligence is connected with
the subconscious mind that operates even in deep sleep.
In Siva Raja
Yoga techniques of practicing Yoga Asana, the
conscious mind is put to high alert to canalize Prana to
the highly activated nucleus points of the body with respect
to particular Asanas. The highest activated regions of
the body are carefully spotted with alertness and activation
of Prana is effected in these regions by visualized Pranic
canalization.
Swami Santhiprasad
has identified through Siva Raja Yoga practices
the basic causes of psychological
suffering which leads to sickness. The difficulty in seeing,
that which is presented before the mind, as it is, is the cause of false
knowledge and false knowledge is the cause of suffering.
Human
beings attribute their past into all the appearances
presented before them under the guise of knowing, deflect
the appearance to something that is unreal. The dreams
or fantasies based on the needs and conveniences and
likings of individual will
be projected over the appearance and
compare the dreams with that of the appearance and
suffer the collapsing of their own dreams.
The reality
is what it is. And is unalterable and it continue to unravel all the
time according to the time and placement of the individual.
However, human beings continue to compare
with their own created
dreams with the reality and suffer the falling of their
own created fantasies and dreams. In this process, the
cellular chemistry changes drastically and it creates a
new condition which is not conducive for healthy living. The cells gradually cannot work properly and become week. To
purify the cells the basic requirement is to suspend the activities
of the conscious mind. There comes the relevance of Yoga.
Temporary suspension of
the conscious mind is Samadhi. In Sabeeja Samadhi new seeds
of transformation are planted to
change the Samskara of the individual which intercepts
with the old Samskara and in course of time a new Samskara
is formed, a Samskara that allows the natural intelligence
to operate without intervention with the conscious conflicting
desires.
In Siva Raja
Yoga, Asanas, Kriyas and Bandhas are placed in high
pedestal as it gives the possibility to purify, refine,
and transform the basic components of the body, the cells.
Cells are the
basic unit that generate energy through the process
of oxidation. By intense concentration and alertness and
careful canalization, the Pranic flow is activated in specific
Chakras and pass on to specific points
and organs that are coming under the respective Chakras
for correction of the physiology.
In
Siva Raja Yoga Kriyas are of great significance.
Maha Bandha, Sakthi Chalanam, Udyanam, Jalandharam, Yoni
Mudra, Maha Mudra, Kevala Kumbhakam etc. are included in
Kriyas. With these Kriyas the Kundalini is activated.
The subtle
energy concentration points that pulsate are scattered
over the body and concentrated on the Adharas of the body
are identified by following the Yogic System of Bhaskara
Pillai Swamikal.
Decoding the
languages of the pulsation is part of the system
of practise delineated by Bhaskara Swamikal. Re-balancing
of elemental composition through activation of Chakras
and nourishing the inner organs are its celebrated hidden
techniques.
At the same
time Siva Raja Yoga believes that practice is
not the be all and end all of everything with respect
to spiritual development. Siva Raja Yoga believes in
life and living. Life itself is the path and the goal.
Swami Santhiprasad is
the grand son of
Yogi Padmanabha Bhagavathar who was disciple
of Thycaudu Ayya Swamikal. He explored Siva
Raja Yoga Tradition in depth for better living with least conflict or no conflict
and for transforming the life into one of great joy.
The Samkhya philosophy
Samkhya is one of the oldest philosophies in the world propounded
by Maharshi Kapila. Samkhya means numbering. Maharshi Kapila
has enumerated the basic principles that involved in the process
of creation and hence is known as Samkhya.
Ultimately there
are two aspects. One is Purusha the witness consciousness
and the other, Prakriti, the Nature. During the final dissolution
Purusha merges with ultimate consciousness and Prakriti dissolves
into the fundamental nature, which we call as Moola Prakriti.
There are three
principles rather qualities (Gunas) evolved at the
beginning not all at the same time but one after the other.
The first evolved
quality is Satwa quality. From Satwa Rajas quality
evolved and from Rajas Tamas evolved. From qualities (Gunas)
elements (Bhutas) evolved.
The first evolved
element was Ether. From Ether, Air evolved. From
Air, Fire evolved. From Fire, Water evolved and from Water,
Earth evolved. From the elements five senses, five sense
organs, five work organs and five Pranas evolved.
An inner sense,
the mind, evolved from the senses. On the basis
of the difference in function, the mind is differentiated
into mind and Intellect. The five senses, the five sense
organs, the five work organs, the five Pranas, mind and
intellect together constitute the subtle body or Sukshma
Sarira or Seed body.
Samkhya says
these seventeen principles with five elements and
three qualities, together 25 principles, constitute the
basis of manifestation. Samkhya gives a clear picture of
the subtle constitution of a man as well as the universe
of which we humans are a part.
Samkhya was
adopted by almost all the rest of Indian philosophies
as its main base. Without the knowledge of Samkhya our
knowledge of Yoga and its application would certainly remain
incomplete.
Kundalini Yoga The kundam means 'pond'. It also means 'cave'. It also has another
meaning 'hidden'. Kundalini means that which is hidden. The
power that is hidden under all material manifestation is called
Kundalini.
Our body
as well as all other objects that we see in
this world is composed of atoms. Atoms are the minutest
particles of existence. Atom is a pack of energy.
So ultimately the objective reality exists in the
form of energy though it appear as matter, which
also includes liquids and gases in this context.
Kundalini is the atomic power that is hidden in all
material manifestation.
When we are
talking about Kundalini Yoga we are talking about
the psychical energy of man. All our actions are based
upon thoughts. Thoughts come from memory. Thoughts may
either remain as thoughts or burst into action. In either
case there involves a lot of chemical reactions to enable
this program of the mind. As a result of this process one
will get a chance to experience ones life. The knowledge
that comes out of the lifes experience is converted into
concepts, believes and ideals which in turn is stored into
the memory. These memories operate as the backdrop of further
thoughts and actions. This is a cycle that is constantly
going on in us.
These process
of conversion of psychical energy into physical
and physical into psychical is happening all the time in
the body and that is done in special energy conversion
centers that we call Chakras in Kundalini Yoga that has
parallels with the endocrine system. In Kundalini Yoga
one will study the whole program of the mind and the operations
of the Chakras.
The practitioner
of Kundalini Yoga will come to the final understanding
of ones own nature by studying in details the different
motivations and emotions corresponding to each and every
psychical centers and master it fully that he understands
the two distinct aspects in him, the witness within and
the awareness that is the cause of his own nature. The
cause of Manifestation of the body is a great power, which
is called the Sakti beyond that is the, witness, the Shiva.
Through the
program of Kundalini Yoga, the awareness of a
person will expand to the maximum possible extent that
he will realize the Nature and Consciousness are not
different and he establishes integration with his witness
consciousness.
Bhaskara Pillai Swamikal Santhi´s spiritual Master and teacher
In 1980 Swami Santhiprasad met Bhaskara Pillai Swamikal on Guro
Pournami Day, devoted to the Masters and from that moment was Santhi´s
search and need for a Master over.
In
due course with the blessings and guidance of
Bhaskara Pillai Swamikal, Swami Santhiprasad formulated his own system
of spiritual practice based on the essence of Samkhya philosophy,
Kundalini Yoga, Swara Yoga, Raja Yoga and Jhana Yoga and delineated
his system of Yoga therapy.
Swamikal
explored the hidden and forgotten areas of spirituality,
which was once very prevalent among the great Saints of ancient
times.
Swamikal was always alert day and night. No one have ever
seen him sleeping. With his great alertness Swamikal could
see all the subtle movements in his own energy channels and
chakras. He has elaborately studied the science of psychical
energy. According to him absolute alertness is what an aspirant
needed.
Swamikal had no personal Master. His Master was the consciousness
itself. He was a completely surrendered man simple to the core.
Swamikal lived very simple not showing any signs of extraordinariness.
His spiritual search was so subtle and hidden that even people
who were very near to him didn't know him as a great Master.
Swamikal left his body January 5, 1999. After his usual
morning job of driving he sat down at 9.40 and left his mortal
abode.
I
have committed myself to be available always for all
of you and share whatever I have understood during
the course of
journey of my life, both in the Indian spiritual Yoga traditions and
beyond, as a seeker if it is of help for you. What we need in this
world is few individuals who could commit themselves to explore
their own inner world! It is really difficult to find few
of them.
However, I commit myself to be available always!

One day I decided to change my life and do something for myself after rearing 4 children that had grown up and moved on with their own lives. So I packed up my house and flew to India to join the School of Santhi.
When I sat in front of Swami Santhiprasad I felt as though all the questions I had ever needed to know about life had been answered
Not only was I given a
professional Yoga Teacher Training
but I was able to unlock deep spiritual gifts inside of me that I never knew existed.
The course taught
me how to live in an authentic manner
and see through the many veils of illusion that were inhibiting my spiritual growth.
The day the course ended in India, I flew back to Australia and started immediately to teach.
The course gave
me confidence and a professional manner of teaching
I was able to impart to all of my students the 'Spirit of Santhi'.
The training made it possible for me to hold successful workshops on Yoga, Meditation and the Kundalini chakra system in Australia and Bali, Indonesia.
I thoroughly recommend the
course to any aspiring Yoga Teachers

I am delighted and most grateful to have completed my teacher training with the School of Santhi.
The organization behind the teaching was splendid
and the delivery was superb.
Absolutely everyone involved in the process from the master, visiting teachers, cooks, cleaners, to the supporting and administrative staff delivered their service with passion, enthusiasm, love and pure commitment.
This was sustained consistently throughout the month. It is best summed up by a fellow student when asked by a stranger about her experience of the course:
Absolutely
amazing!
I had heard from a previous student that Master Santhi is a great teacher - yet I was absolutely astounded to have experienced it first hand:
Santhis teachings show a great depth in insight, knowledge, experience and sensitivity
which in totality is, quite simply, mind-blowing. He is the best story teller I have ever come across: we all enjoyed Santhi's truly inspirational lectures, often underpinned by personal accounts, shared with much humility, grace and humor

My experience at
the School of Santhi once again reassured me of how you attract the experiences in your life that you need at the perfect moment.
I was open to bringing a deeply inspiring adventure into my life and a deeply inspiring adventure is exactly what I received.
The location was perfect.
Natural. Beautiful. In the mountains and forests. By a healing river. Trees. Birds. Close to the elements.
What more could I ask for?
The teachings were perfect
clear and well structured; enlightening should I say.
All the Santhi staff and helpers were open, transparent and friendly.
The food was healthy and well balanced.
The school was professional
with everyone always greeting you with a smile.
The Yoga Asana practice pushed me to my limits and I really feel the difference!
You are treated as a unique individual with the School of Santhi. It really felt like you were a part of a small family, and everyone was welcomed with fresh, open arms.
If you are
looking
to be challenged on all levels then the School of Santhi is a great place
to continue your own serious (but not too serious!) personalized journey to oneness.
The course gave me the traditional interpretation of the true nature of Yoga
and showed me how truly deep it’s roots go, and how it relates to all aspects of life!
It was truly a great introductory course that is packed to the brim with information and opportunities for growth, self healing, self realization and self-discovery.
Santhi passes
over his wisdom in a very down to earth, personal and
unique way
so that you can truly understand and relate to his words with your own life experiences, through the honest revealing of Santhi’s own life experiences and HIS own human journey!
He was always open to questions and easily approachable.
I am a changed man!
I am not the same person as when
I came

I enjoyed my month in Kallar terribly.
The training
far exceeded my expectations
and even being home, I am frequently reminded of all I learned and experienced during my time at the School of Santhi.
Prior to coming to the program, I had hoped to increase my knowledge related to yoga as well as an opportunity refine and improve my asanas.
All that was accomplished but
I also left with a very personal shift in perspective.
The training has changed me in very meaningful ways and
I believe it has put me on a path to continue my spiritual journey.
I am amazed that all this could have taken place in such a short amount of time.
I would like take a minute to thank
Swami Santhi, Kannan, Kumar and all the support staff who made the training and the time in Kallar so wonderful.
Swami's method of presenting information was so engaging and came from a place of truth and it made it easy to be in long lectures every day.
I was always exited for Swami's discussions
because I knew that the information he was giving us was such a special and unique gift and his delivery was so effortless and personal that it never felt like a class or a chore.
Kannan's
asana classes were wonderful
and now that I am back in my regular practice, I am able to notice the vast improvement in my practice.
Kannan's
fearlessness in challenging students could only be successfully accomplished because of his
knowledge of
how the body works and where the limit is for each individual.
Having Kumar on site daily was also such a gift. I always felt taken care of and was so appreciative to have someone to go to if anything was needed.
Kumars energy
and bright spirit was
felt throughout the
house every day.
My month at
School of Santhi was an experience
I will never forget
